Midterm Submission

Image
These are the finished products for the pages in my magazine. First seen is the front cover. The front cover includes a main picture of a downtown setting, this introduces what the magazine will mainly be about, downtown areas in Florida. I chose the color of the dark red to put the words in on the front to match an overall color scheme for the cover. Next is the table of contents and I chose a soft color for the background that also matches the color scheme of the front. Last is the article and to keep it from being too plain I wanted to put a photo from my photo shoot behind it. In order for the text to be seen I lowered the opacity of the photo. The purpose of the article is to give insight to visitors or potential visitors to Florida on why they should vacation here and what will make their trip worthwhile.

Photo Shoot Location

There are many locations around Sarasota, Florida to choose from for a photoshoot. After considering many possible areas I decided on Downtown Sarasota to take photos. My group-mate and I discussed where in Florida our magazine issues would focus on and while she decided on beaches, I decided on a city scene. Downtown Sarasota is a very central location with a lot to offer and many places surrounding it as well. Downtown offers just about everything from restaurants, shopping, movie theaters, and more.

Photo Shoot

I made a trip down there for an afternoon and got some shots of the restaurants, stores, and the tall building city feel to it. Below are ten photos I picked from the contact sheet that I think best portray Downtown Sarasota.

Flat Plan

Image
When creating the flat plan of my magazine, I placed advertisements for about half of the pages. This is how most magazines are organized I noticed from research. The advertisements all correlate to Florida and travel. For example some are camping equipment, travel agency's, or beach wear. The articles in the flat plan also are about Florida. The rest of the flat plan names all of the articles. Each article will fall under one of the categories that are found on the table of contents; Hotels, Restaurants, and Leisure.

Table of Contents

Image
In the table of contents there are three category headings. The purpose of this was to separate and group the different type of articles available in the magazine and present them in an organized way for readers to easily understand the layout. Each category correlated to travel; Hotels, restaurants, and leisure. Under each of the headings are listed an additional three article titles and page numbers they can be found on. I also chose colors to make the headings that match with the overall color scheme of the front of the magazine, my group-mate did this as well with her issue of the magazine.

Cover Design Template

Image
The first step in creating the cover design was choosing a title. My group-mate and I decided on Getaway Travel Magazine  to be the title of our magazine. We thought this was a good fit for a travel magazine because it will reach out to the audience of people going on vacation and having a getaway. The next step was finding a font that was flattering for the title and matched the style of the magazine. We chose the font "Rockwell Extra Bold" in size 72 for Getaway and size 36 for Travel Magazine because we wanted the "Getaway" to be larger font to be the first thing readers eyes go to. Both photos for our cover designs are from the beaches located in Florida to attract the attention of readers possibly looking to travel to Florida.
